Our Story

K-Cow Ranch was established in 1999 ( as a result of the union of Kevin Wirsta and Janice Taylor.) Kevin has been raising purebred Polled Herefords since 1990, while Janice grew up on the family farm (Poplar Bluff Stock Farm) raising purebred charolais since 1981.

We presently calve out about 300 head of purebreds, consisting of Polled Hereford, Charolais and Black Angus seedstock.

We have made the commitment to be in the cattle industry for the longer haul. At the present time, we are continuing to grow our purebred herds.

We take pride in not only providing quality products and services, but going above and beyond to ensure our customers are completely satisfied.

All 3 breeds that we run are evolving with a focus on moderate frame, thickness and milk production. We background, finish and butcher many of our calves, giving us an opportunity to scrutinize our breeding program very carefully to ensure the bulls we use and sell are giving our buyers the best possible product in the shortest period of time.

Kevin & Janice Wirsta

Kevin has always been around cattle, growing up in the 4-H program and attending other cattle shows to improve his knowledge and increase the quality of his own herd.

He is always eager to meet new people and talk about anything and everything!

Janice has always loved cattle and grew up with the Charolais breed. She was in 4-H for many years, and her parents were 4-H leaders for over 40 years.

Janice looks after the finances and bookkeeping, taking care of our ranch and making sure things are running properly!

Kailey Wirsta

Kailey graduated from Lakeland College with a diploma in AgBusiness in 2022. She also has her Graphic Design certificate, which she's using in her own business, K-Cow Design. She does photography, videography, and graphic design of all sorts, plus marketing and social media content creation.
On top of that, she has her own herd of 40 head, and assists with calving, breeding decisions, and calf registration... basically our walking herdbook!

Lexi graduated in June of 2023 from Portage College in Lac La Biche for hairstyling! She's currently working on her apprenticeship in St. Paul!
She wants to come back to the farm where she has her own herd of 20 head, and continue farming, along with having her own business of a hair salon.
She loves to help during calving and halter-breaking season, and loves the fall show runs!
